GAVEL PASSING

The International Gavel passing will be held in Okanagan Falls this year. It will be held in Canada again in 2014 and the North Okanagan Zone will be the host. Our Branch is thinking of putting a bid to have the Gavel Passing held here in Salmon Arm. This is a Major commitment and a large committee will be needed to make it happen. Are you ready to help? Can we make it happen?

A Widow’s Anguish

A letter was received at Dominion Command, and forwarded to all branches. In this letter a widow explains her disappointment at her home branch as they did not support her husband’s funeral service with an Honour Guard. Just prior to the service excuses were made from the Sgt. at Arms that they could not attend the service. It was later found that the Sgt. at Arms and some of the executive were at their branch during the service.

The deceased was a vice-president, had performed many services for the branch over the years particularly during the Poppy Campaigns, raising many thousands of dollars. He was a veteran of the Second World War. The widow was very upset with the NON-support or representation from the branch.

This should not happen in any branch!
